There is nothing my 3 year old likes to do more these days than to push his bike to the top of our street, climb aboard, take a deep breath, and ZOOM down our hill as fast as gravity will carry him. His cries of “Look at me Mommieeeeeeee!” can be heard as he careens past. The casual observer would think he is wildly out of control, but he manages to bring his bike to a confident halt every time.
As he flies past me smiling I call out things like, “Keep your eyes on the road!” or “Don’t forget to stop!” or “Not too fast!” Today I realized something. He doesn’t want me to watch so that I can call out instructions. He wants me to cheer him on. He wants me to be his biggest fan. I know God loves him more than I can imagine, but today I have vowed to join God in being “Ben’s Biggest Fan.”
As I put him to bed tonight, he asked me what my favorite part of the day was. I told him that it was watching him zoom down the hill on his rocket bike. He said his favorite part of the day was when I watched him go fast on his bike.
I pray tonight that I can be cheering on not only my children, but my brothers and sisters in Christ as we speed along on our life journeys together! Anyone want to dust off their pom-poms with me?
