Impressing

As I was washing up the dishes after supper tonight my 3 and a half year old says” I have a headache , Mom! When we go to bed can you pray for it?”

I stopped doing what I was doing and stooped down and said” Shae, we can talk to God right now, not just at bedtime, so let’s pray right now for your headache”. As I picked her up in my arms and prayed, I realized I needed to be more diligent in teaching my children about prayer and what it is.

We pray as a family in the morning and at bedtime but my kids don’t see the silent prayers during the day, as I am driving, making dinner, praying with my prayer partner on the phone,  or sitting quietly reading my Bible. I think I am going to start to be more vocal/visual in prayer so my children can see by example.

In Deuteronomy 6:5-7 it says ” Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and all your strength. These commandments I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress (to teach, to sharpen, as to pierce deep into their hearts, to get it inside) them upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when when you get up. “

I am going to begin to make an impression!
